An aerospace electrical harness is a pre-assembled bundle of wires, connectors, terminals and protective sleeving, built to a drawing, that carries power and signals between aircraft systems. It replaces loose wiring with one tested assembly that is easier to install, inspect and maintain.
What a harness contains
- Wires and cables selected for the load, temperature and environment
- Connectors and terminals
- Protective sleeving, braid or conduit
- Identification markings and labels
- Clamps and supports for installation
How aerospace harnesses are made
- Review the drawing and specification.
- Cut and mark the wire, including laser wire marking and cutting.
- Terminate the wires and fit connectors.
- Assemble the harness on a build board and fit protection.
- Test for continuity and insulation, then inspect and document.
Why aerospace harnesses differ from other wiring
Aircraft harnesses face weight limits, vibration, temperature range and strict traceability, so the supplier’s approval and quality system matter as much as the wiring itself. 21 Aero manufactures harnesses under UK CAA Part 21G.
